In the context of a motor vehicle accident, a closed head injury can occur in a number of ways: Mechanisms of Closed Head Injury in Motor Vehicle Accidents:

Direct Impact: The head directly strikes an object like the windshield, dashboard, side window, or steering wheel. This can occur if the individual isn't wearing a seatbelt or if the force of the collision is great enough to cause the head to jolt forward or to the side. Whiplash : Even without a direct impact, the rapid acceleraƟon or deceleraƟon of a vehicle can cause the head to snap forward and backward.
